With the digital transition only a week away, many people have already discovered that digital channels are actually available now. Most networks have been broadcasting their digital signals along side their analog signals for some time now.
Of course we all know the benefits of digital and why it is better than analog. If you already have your digital converter, make sure you get it set up now so you can start enjoying digital before June 12th. What’s that you say? You don’t have your digital converter box yet? If you aren’t quite ready for the digital television deadline originally scheduled for Tuesday, February 17, 2009, you’re in luck – and you’re not alone. Congress voted to postpone the transition from analog to digital to allow Americans additional time to prepare. The new deadline is Friday, June 12, 2009.
Some television stations will make the switch on February 17, 2009, or at least prior to June 12 due to unique technical issues. Please contact your local television station’s website for details specific for your area.
The Obama administration has shown concern after learning the Commerce Department has reached their $1.34 billion funding limit for digital TV converter box coupons. With funding now exhausted, the NITA (National Telecommunications and Information Administration) has nearly 2.6 million coupon requests on a growing waiting list. In addition, The Nielsen Company estimates that as many as 6.5 million U.S. households might see their TVs go dark if the transition deadline is not postponed.
