The Right Mattress Means More Than A Good Night's Rest!

Wednesday, November 18, 2009 by hhgregg Product Expert
Do you know that we spend more than a third of our lives sleeping? How many of us give much thought to the mattresses we spend all that time on? Investing in a good mattress means you sleep well, ensuring you don't become another statistic among the 20 million-plus Americans who suffer from insomnia. Here are a few tips to buying the right mattress:
  • Decide on your budget and get the best your money can buy. Consumer Reports puts the minimum price of a good, queen-size mattress at $800. Just keep an eye out for bargains.
  • Firmness of mattresses vary from brand to brand; test before buying. Experts suggest that a medium-firm support is best for your spine.
  • Don't go for all-synthetic ticking. Even though you cover it with a sheet, this 'unbreathable' fabric can leave you sweaty.
  • Always compare different mattresses for factors like size, price and features before making your decision.
For a great mattresses gallery in Columbus, just head to hhgregg. The store has a selection of brands like Sertapedic and Vera Wang to choose from. Besides, these are probably the best-priced mattresses in Tampa.

Why Switch to Digital TV?

Thursday, June 4, 2009 by Brian Thomas
With all the media surrounding the digital transition happening whether you’re ready or not on June 12th, you find yourself asking why we are switching to digital in the first place. Besides, doesn’t analog work just fine anyway?

The obvious answer is that digital transmissions will give the consumer (you and me) a much better signal which ultimately gives us a better picture. Gone will be the days of a snowy picture. With a digital TV signal, you either have the images on your screen or you don’t.  The good news is it is much easier for your digital tuner to lock onto a signal.

Going to digital broadcasts allows the signal to be compressed. This will free up parts of the airwaves that can then be used for future innovative services. Not only that, but your local stations will also be able to broadcast more content on different sub-channels.

Not since the change to color television from black and white has a change in broadcasting been so important. Be sure that you are up to date and ready for the switch.

Big Box vs. Mass Merchant Services

Thursday, May 7, 2009 by Dustin Checketts
A joint study conducted by J.D. Power and Associates and Market Force Information was released today identifying big box retailer hhgregg as offering much greater value from its sales associates than that of mass merchant chains such as Walmart or Target.

As a result of that greater value, big screen TV (40 inches or larger) shoppers are much more likely to received brand specific recommendations while making their selection. In addition, the study finds that "sales staff at big box retailers are far more likely to inform big screen television shoppers of services the store offers—such as delivery and installation—as well as other competitive advantages."

hhgregg's best-educated associatesAccording to the report, the study’s results were derived from more 8,000 individual mystery shoppers from 4,500 electronic retailers. The results shows an average of 86 percent of sales staff were willing to provide a recommendation to shoppers for an LCD television. But only 22 percent of sales staff at mass merchants were will to provide brand specific recommendations to their customers. This was even after customers specifically asked for a brand recommendation.

hhgregg shoppers will not only receive brand recommendations, but will receive information on hhgregg financing options, hhgregg delivery and hhgregg installation services.

Shopping for a New Appliance

Thursday, May 7, 2009 by Dustin Checketts
Have you ever stopped to realize just how often we rely upon our everyday appliances? Dishwashers, refrigerators, stovetops, ovens, washers, dryers, air conditioners – I could go on. We just don’t realize how convenient modern appliances have made our lives until one of them malfunctions or breaks down.

Whether you’re replacing a broken appliance or buying a new one, the following tips will help you get through the hhgregg buying process without losing any sleep.
  • Accurately measure and record the height, width and depth of the area where your appliance will go, ensuring easy access to all features and enough room is left for doors to swing open.
  • Measure all doorways that your new appliance will be required to pass through to get to its final resting place—you don’t want to be forced to remove doors and molding, or worse, sending the appliance back.
  • Don’t ignore the weight of the appliance: Make sure you have the necessary help or tools when moving appliances to or from their locations.
  • Collect and study information about the appliance, its features and available brands, via product brochures, manufacturers’ websites, and other trusted sources.
  • Consider the amount of energy the appliance will use; you may pay a premium for an energy-efficient appliance, but it could save you more in the long-run.
  • If you’re particular to a specific color or style, you’ll often need to balance an appliance feature set with its aesthetics—decide which is more important to you before shopping.
  • Make sure you have the proper hookups for the appliances you seek: a water hookup for in-door water and ice refrigerators, proper gas or electric hookups for washers and dryers, etc.
  • Closely examine warranties and extended service plans so you’ll have the peace of mind that should accompany any significant purchase.

Digital Cameras: The Shutterbug Guide

Wednesday, May 6, 2009 by Dustin Checketts
With 35mm film cameras, it used to take days, or even weeks, before you could find out if your vacation photos turned out or not. Then your photos would be stored in one of those photo albums with the acid-free sticky pages or slide carousels and they’d never see the light of day. Today’s shutterbug can have their work posted live on the internet within seconds of being shot for the entire world to see.

Buying a camera that suits your needs and fits your budget will provide years of service and headache-free use. The #1 mistake consumers make is not buying a camera they’ll outgrow in a few months; it is buying a camera that is way beyond what they really need. If you’re just taking photos a couple times a year, a 15MP dSLR camera capable of producing poster-sized images by the thousands is simply more camera than you’ll ever need.

Point-and-Shoot Sony Cyber-shot – 7.2MP
Professional dSLR Canon EOS – 15.1MP
