Unique Fall Weekend Getaways
27 Sep, 2016
Embrace the crisp autumn weather and plan a special trip for yourself, the family, friends or your significant other. Fall is a great time to explore and squeeze in some extra travel before the winter hibernating begins. We’ve compiled a list of some easy weekend getaways to get you out of the house this fall.
What better way to take in the beautiful reds, oranges and yellows of the changing fall leaves than to stay in a treehouse? Growing in popularity, you’ll find treehouse getaways scattered throughout the country.
As another great option to take in the fall foliage, state parks are a great weekend getaway option for couples, families or even a group of friends. You can often stay in a lodge or in a cabin and have access to the amenities of both. Most state parks have hiking trails and indoor amenities – like swimming pools – making them appealing for visitors of any age.
Bed and breakfast
For a more relaxing, quaint getaway, a bed and breakfast will provide the hominess that a hotel just can’t deliver. Ask your host about local activities. Plan ahead and find a bed and breakfast near local wineries or apple orchards to make the most of a fall visit.
Hotel in a big city
Head to the nearest big city and rent a hotel in a trendy spot downtown. Plan ahead and get tickets for a show, concert or sporting event and scope out the best restaurants the city has to offer. Plan a loose schedule to hit up the best tourist spots. Consult the city’s event guide to see if any fall festivals – like Oktoberfest – are taking place.
If you live close (six hours or less) to a major attraction, take a long weekend to check it out. Niagara Falls, the Grand Canyon, Yellow Stone Park, the Red Wood Forest, Mount Rushmore and Martha’s Vineyard are all great places to check off your traveling bucket list without leaving the country. Fall is a great time to visit since you won’t have summer crowds but the weather is still nice enough to be outdoors.
Visits a famous ball park
Make a trip to a legendary baseball venue like Wrigley Field or Fenway Park. Fall is an exciting time to catch a ball game – if your team is still in the playoffs that is! Without the summer heat, you won’t run the risk of baking in the stadium. You can also tour the stadium even if there isn’t a game, or if your team is already out of the running.
Plan a fun staycation
Who says you have to leave your house to have fun? Staycations are also great for fall. Make some homemade apple sauce in your slow cooker and carve pumpkins with family. Cozy up on the couch and pop a movie on your 4K Ultra HD TV, or relax on your patio while your favorite tunes play on your outdoor speakers. The weekend is the perfect time to use your streaming players to binge watch TV shows or start a gaming tournament on your Xbox One console. However you prefer to enjoy the weekend, don’t hold back!
