hhgregg and Andretti Give Back to the Troops

10 May, 2016

With the 100th running of the Indianapolis 500 happening this year, hhgregg knew we wanted to partner with a name synonymous with this legendary race, so Andretti Autosports was a natural choice.  So this year, for the first time ever, hhgregg is sponsoring an IndyCar racing team!

On Friday, May 6, hhgregg and Andretti put that partnership to good use to help out a great cause, and along with Wish For Our Heroes, we were able to give a number of military service members a day they wouldn’t soon forget.

It began with an offer for these dedicated men and women to visit and take a tour of the awesome Andretti Autosports headquarters in Indianapolis, IN.  Here they were taken through the facility and shown rare, behind-the-scenes views of all the work that goes in to putting together multiple race teams.  From the building of engines to the wrapping of cars with sponsorship decals, the troops were given the ultimate  peak behind the curtain of a world that very few ever get to see.

But that wasn’t all.  After the tour, the military members were treated to a catered lunch and a surprise visit and Q&A with legendary IndyCar driver (now team owner) Michael Andretti.  He answered questions about what it was a like to drive in the Indy 500, recount a few memories from his driving days, and talk about what it’s like to now work with his son, Marco, after having been teammates with his father, Mario, in the past.IMG_7795

After lunch there a few more items to take care of before we called it a day.  VP of Marketing for hhgregg, Chris Sutton, thanked all the troops for coming out to the event and told them how much their service meant to him and the company.  And as a special thanks, he awarded each of them with two tickets for the 100th running of the Indianapolis 500 as well as a $100 hhgregg gift card.

To say this was a special day for all involved would be an understatement.

Indianapolis ABC affiliate WRTV 6 joined us to cover this fun event.

This Memorial Day, we’d like to say thank you to all of our military men and women both at home and deployed overseas.  We truly appreciate the work you do and know we wouldn’t have what we enjoy here at home without your bravery and service.

Also, keep an eye out during the Indy 500 and Grand Prix of Indianapolis for the hhgregg sponsored Andretti Motorsports cars.  Join us in cheering on Marco Andretti, Ryan Hunter-Reay and Carlos Munoz to take the checked flag.
