Amanda Prak Sam
Why We’re Saluting Amanda
Amanda started her charity, One Hundred Pounds of Hope, to help struggling families in Cambodia. Originally from Cambodia, Amanda and her family fled the country to escape the mass genocide of the Khmer Rouge. Today, Amanda gives back to the people of Cambodia through her charity. She explains, “One Hundred Pounds of Hope strives to give the children a viable way out of poverty, by building and outfitting a new school. With this opportunity for the children to be educated, One Hundred Pounds of Hope hopes to secure a brighter future for the children of Cambodia.”
In her spare time, Amanda likes to give back locally to her community by conducting speaking engagements to young people, and she hopes that her story may inspire and motivate young people in the right direction.
When asked why giving back to the community is important to her, Amanda answers, “I’m very thankful that I have the opportunity to give back to my community because I know what it feels like to have nothing…I was given the second chance to live a good life, therefore I owe to give back. I am very grateful just to be alive and to be able to wake up every morning under the same roof with my family is more than I can ever ask for.”
