Maytag Salutes: Danielle Washington

Why We’re Saluting Danielle:
Danielle started out as a volunteer in the public school system and within months, she applied to be a substitute teacher because she loved teaching the kids new and exciting things. “Watching them grow and mature as scholars makes me smile,” she says.
Danielle was a substitute teacher for two years, and she gained a new appreciation for what school teachers do for children. She took various positions as a classroom teacher in pre-kindergarten through fifth grade as well as the librarian, EIP (Early Intervention Program) teacher and physical education coach. She adds, “I loved every bit of it…becoming a substitute gave me the push I needed to go back to school and get my Master’s in Elementary Education. I am looking forward to becoming a full-time teacher by the next school year.”
When asked why giving back to the community is important to her, Danielle answers, “Sometimes a good teacher is the only person pushing a child to strive for more. If I can help strengthen a child’s foundation, I feel I have accomplished something great.”
