24 May, 2014
Why We’re Saluting John:
John is serving in his 30th year with the Indianapolis Fire Department. He assists those in need through his work as a firefighter and emergency medical technician. John has dedicated his life to minimizing the loss of life and property through fire suppression, rescue, education, code enforcement, investigation and other innovative programs.
His current assignment is Battalion Chief Command Officer, managing fire and technical rescue emergency operations. John works closely with residents and businesses through fire prevention and safety education programs to make his city as safe as possible. Additionally, he teaches as an instructor for the flashover container programs, delivering complete hands-on live fire training programs across the globe to educate and train firefighters to recognize the warning signs of flashover, the spontaneous combustion of a room and its entire contents.
John adds, “I have the privilege of providing school age children fire safety programs, delivering smoke detectors to residents who may not afford them, raising money for the Muscular Dystrophy Association, assisting with The Indianapolis Fire Department Clothe a Child program, breast cancer fund raising, and other community service projects. I am proud to serve my community and I am always aware that: Greater love hath no man than this that a man lay down his life for his friends.”
