Maytag Salutes: Jorge Aquino

29 Apr, 2016

Name: Jorge Aquino

Hometown: Lakeland, FL

Why we’re saluting Jorge:

Jorge has given so much of his time and energy to raise money for charities and veterans.  He loves America and has a heart bigger than the State of Texas.  He is the Commander of the Sons of the American Legion, and the Director of the Legion Riders.  Being in charge of those two specific groups, Jorge has been largely responsible for sponsoring events that have earned money for charities such as The Special Olympics of Florida, Hillsborough County Vietnam Veterans Memorial, Bikers against Child Abuse, Lifepath Hospice of Hillsborough County.

His donations have supported directly to the morale and well-being of all Paratroopers of the 3rd Brigade Combat Team deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.  His tireless efforts have promoted a very successful turnout in the Wreaths across America Campaign that places wreaths on the graves of American Soldiers during the holidays and he personally escorts them.

He is such a patriot that he has escorted a replica of the Vietnam Memorial Wall to and from its destination, and has American Flag retirement ceremonies right in his backyard to assure that they are disposed of with the utmost respect.  Jorge is not a veteran himself, but if you ask any veteran that knows him, and they will tell you that no man has done more for the veterans in the community than he has, and that he is a hero.
