NFL Season Opener Ratings Match Record High
14 Sep, 2015
Given the New England Patriots months-long drama over Deflategate, it is not exactly surprising to learn that a whole bunch of homegaters tuned in to watch the NFL season opener between the defending Super Bowl champs and the Pittsburgh Steelers.
The game managed to draw an astounding 17.7 overnight rating, besting last year’s opener between the Packers and the Seahawks by five percent.
NBC’s NFL Kickoff record 17.7/30 for Pitt-NE is up 5% from last year (16.8/28; GB-Seattle) & up 9% from ’13 (16.2 for Ravens-Broncos)

According to Forbes, the only NFL season opener to match Thursday’s game at Gillette Stadium was the 2010 season kickoff between the Minnesota Vikings and the New Orleans Saints (which had Brett Favre entering his final season in the NFL).
Record-high ratings may seem like a given when it comes to the NFL but evidence like this just proves that there’s nothing in the entertainment landscape that quite unites American audiences and homes like football. The NFL is back in a big way and we can’t wait to homegate again this weekend.[Forbes]
